Michelin-Starred Chefs from Gipuzkoa Unite for a Charity Dinner Supporting DANA Victims in Valencia
Coordinated by Mugaritz, Michelin-starred chefs from Gipuzkoa will host a charity dinner at the Basque Culinary Center on 13 December 2024, in support of the "Desde Valencia para Valencia" initiative. This event aims to raise funds for those affected by the DANA storm that recently devastated the Comunidad Valenciana, severely impacting its social and economic fabric. Originating in Valencia, the initiative has gained traction both nationally and internationally, showcasing the solidarity of the gastronomic community.
The event will feature a special menu crafted by an illustrious lineup of chefs:
- Paulo Airaudo (Amelia*, San Sebastián)
- Aitor Arregi (Elkano, Getaria)
- Elena Arzak (Arzak**, San Sebastián)
- Martín Berasategui (Martín Berasategui**, Lasarte-Oria)
- Edorta Lamo (Arrea, Kanpezu)
- Iñigo Lavado (Iñigo Lavado, Irún)
- Dani López (Kokotxa, San Sebastián)
- Andoni Luis Aduriz (Mugaritz*, Errenteria)
- Roberto Ruiz (Hika Bodega, Villabona)
- Pedro Subijana (Akelarre**, San Sebastián)
- Gorka Txapartegui (Alameda, Hondarribia)
- Professors from the Basque Culinary Center
Beverages will be generously provided by Bodega Hika, Vino de Jerez Osborne, Brandy 1866, and the Subsierra viticulture association (comprising eight wineries from Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta).
Reservations can be made through the website desdevalenciaparavalencia.com/cenas-solidarias.
A Solidarity Effort
This charity dinner is part of a global initiative spearheaded by renowned Valencian chefs Ricard Camarena, Quique Dacosta, and Begoña Rodrigo, with the support of the Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs (AVE). In Gipuzkoa, the effort is backed by AEFAME (Basque Family Business Association).
The funds raised will directly aid recovery efforts in the Comunidad Valenciana, focusing on revitalizing small businesses and protecting jobs. Similar events are being held worldwide, unified by a single goal: to provide tangible support to those affected by the DANA storm.
“Mesa 0” Initiative
For those unable to attend the dinner but eager to contribute, a "Mesa 0" option is available on the official website. Individuals and businesses can make donations of any amount until 20 December 2024 at www.desdevalenciaparavalencia.com.
This event exemplifies how gastronomy can serve as a powerful platform for support and hope, bringing communities together in times of need.
